The Power of Opportunity: Turning Dreams into Degrees

We connect people who care with causes that matter. Caring about the education of our youth is certainly a cause that matters. The Community Foundation has a long history of supporting education in Lorain County.

We offer a diverse range of scholarships for an equally diverse range of students. Our scholarships support students who are: high school seniors, already attending a 2-year or 4-year college, thinking about a trade or technical school, or are looking to go back to school to change careers.

And, we have more than $800,000 in scholarships that are available to grant this year. How amazing is that?

Each scholarship represents a promise made from a caring donor to help future generations attend school and achieve a degree or certificate.

Each scholarship that is awarded keeps the promise we made to the donor to steward the Endowment Fund they created in order to make scholarships every year, forever.

The application is available on our website peoplewhocare.org/students

Beyond scholarships, we have youth leaders who are doing incredible work to support and create positive change for their peers.

The Youth Fund is made up of 8th through 12th graders from schools across Lorain County.

This year, the Youth Fund is hosting a Youth Summit on Saturday, March 24th. The Summit is focused on youth mental health and includes peer to peer training for youth and for caring adults.

Youth will leave the Summit with the skills to have a conversation with a friend who might be experiencing psychological distress and connect that friend with the help they need.

Students in Lorain County grades 7-12 are encouraged to attend the Summit as well as principals, teachers, counselors, and parents. Visit 2018youthsummit.eventbrite.com to register or share the event details.

We also have Endowment Funds that provide support for every school district in the county with flexible funding for their academic programming beyond the state-mandated budget.

School Endowments provide support for academic clubs, computer programming, or an introduction to a future career.  In 2016, over $638,000 was distributed for grants and scholarships from the school endowment funds.

If you have causes in the community you care about, including schools or providing opportunities for youth, you can support those passions through the Community Foundation. It doesn’t take a lot of money to make a big impact.

Your gifts will support that cause, forever. Donate to any of our existing scholarship Funds and help us make dreams come true for students pursuing their passion. Or help the Youth Fund do even more amazing things in Lorain County!
