Summer in Lorain County: A Season of Celebration and Community
Summer is here—and exciting for so many reasons. The warmth of the sun, the longer days, and the joy of fresh air and freedom remind us why this season is such a gift. It’s the time for summer camp and summer reading lists, for soaking in the beauty of our Metro Parks and enjoying Lakeview Park’s beach and café. Truly, we are so blessed to call Lorain County home.

We begin this season with Memorial Day, honoring those who served and celebrating the start of something new—the end of the school year and the beginning of countless summer adventures. From planning vacations and camping trips to cheering on the CLE Guardians or catching a Lake Erie Crushers game, this is the time we reconnect with what matters most: family, friends, and community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our 2025 Annual Meeting. Held at the Lorain County JVS, the event brought together neighbors, donors, non-profits, and students to celebrate the stories and people that shape our county. We were honored to recognize our newest class of scholarship recipients and award the 2025 Jim Doughman Community Service Award to Tony Gallo, a true champion for economic growth and local business. My heart is full of the inspiration and generosity that was on full display from our Lorain County community.

As we continue to celebrate the summer—and all things community—I’d love to hear from you:
What summer tradition resonates most with you?
What would you want to make sure is on your July or August calendar?

Please share your summer joys with us at candrews@peoplewhocare.org. We’d love to share your ideas with our staff and community partners across Lorain County. And don’t forget to post your events and volunteer opportunities on LorainCounty.com—let’s keep each other in the loop and lift each other up.

Wherever this summer takes you, we hope to see you out and about. Here’s to sunshine, connection, and a community that truly cares.
