September CEO Blog

The point is not to pay back kindness but to pass it on.”- Julia Alvarez”

Happy Fall! In what feels like a blink of an eye, September is nearly over. How fortunate that many of us could celebrate Labor Day weekend with family and friends and take advantage of a shortened workweek to recharge, connect, and even volunteer.  As school ramps up again, this is a time when the importance of supporting young people in our community is top of mind. We can all find a way to give back and lift up the next generation.

In Lorain County, we do not have to look far for an opportunity. We are fortunate to be working with so many community partners that connect resources to those who are the most in need. Care to join us? Please take a few minutes to join our Lorain County Scholars Connect program to mentor, guide, and connect with others in our community. Most of us remember an adult from our childhood who made a difference and helped us on our path, and participating in this program can make a huge difference in a young person’s life and future trajectory. Our scholarship programs will open in December, but why wait until then? As we prepare to support all our high school youth and others looking for career and vocational advice, you can join us now.

Fall also brings with it the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), and another fantastic way to support youth in our community is by joining the Hispanic Fund on Saturday, October 2nd, for their Inaugural Latino Scholarship Fundraiser. Or perhaps you know a program in the community supporting our youth that could benefit from additional resources. Let us know and apply for a mini-grant from our Lakeland Fund to begin your work, or let us promote your event as we continue to lift Lorain County and our many community partners.

I’ll close this month by extending a special thanks to everyone that supported our local non-profits through Connect to a Cause on September 16th. We continue to tally the amount raised in just 12 hours, we are grateful to our community that supported causes that matter right here in Lorain County. On Friday, October 1st at 10 am, we will gather with our participating organization with our Metro Parks celebrate. I hope you will join us, and the event will be live-streamed on Facebook.

Be well,

Cindy
