Welcome to Our NEW Community Engagement Fellow, Britney!

Tell us about your new role with the Community Foundation.

As the Community Engagement Fellow at the Community Foundation, my role revolves around designing and executing diverse community engagement projects, including initiatives like Neighbor Night. Starting this spring, my primary focus will be launching Neighbor Night in Oberlin and establishing a comprehensive volunteer database showcasing opportunities across the county. Throughout the year, I aspire to cultivate meaningful connections and a sustainable network among Lorain County residents, fostering empowerment and personal growth within the community.

How has your prior work experience prepared you for this role with the Community Foundation?

Before joining the Community Foundation, I participated in an AmeriCorps program with College Now of Greater Cleveland, where my primary focus was assisting underserved students in navigating postsecondary education opportunities. During this time, I gained extensive experience mentoring students, organizing and executing enrichment activities, coordinating college visits, and identifying scholarship-eligible individuals.

How can people engage with you? When are you a good resource for the community?

I am deeply committed to supporting my community in any way I can. My journey in volunteerism began in high school through Rotary, where I contributed to the backpack program. This involved packing non-perishable food for elementary students in our district who relied on free or reduced lunch. I extended this passion for service by joining Oberlin Community Services, where I worked in the pantry, and dedicated time to volunteering at Friendship APL in Elyria, walking dogs weekly. My dedication to serving others drives me to continually seek opportunities to positively impact the community.

What are you most excited about in working with the Community Foundation?

I’m particularly excited about the opportunity to forge connections and establish relationships with individuals throughout Lorain County. I look forward to being introduced to new organizations, diverse groups, and a plethora of new opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the community.

Share something you love about Lorain County.

One aspect of Lorain County that resonates deeply with me is its rich and distinctive history, particularly its celebration and remembrance of our collective heritage. I love to see how our community honors and commemorates the events, people, and milestones that have shaped our identity over time.
