May is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues, reducing stigma, and promoting the importance of mental well-being. Thankfully, Lorain County is home to a wide variety of resources that can help all of us take care of our mental health and manage stress and anxiety. NAMI Lorain County, The Nord Center, The LCADA Way, and El Centro are just a few of the non-profits that provide counseling and other mental health services to all members of our community. And don’t forget our beautiful Lorain County Metroparks, our vast library system, exercise, and yoga classes offered throughout our community to offer us peace and solace when we need a break. You can also support the work of these vital organizations through the Community Foundation. Remember, you are not alone. You are surrounded by neighbors and a community that cares.
Our Affiliate Funds are busy this spring! The African American Community Fund is hosting the Living Your Legacy: A Night of Black Excellence Gala on Friday, June 14th, at the Ariel Broadway Hotel. Mark your calendars for this fabulous event. Our Youth Fund is experiencing some exciting changes as it says goodbye to graduating seniors and votes on new officers. I would like to say a warm goodbye and best wishes to the outgoing President, Isabella Barb. Isabella has been an engaged leader and has attended our board meetings representing the young leaders of the Youth Fund, and she will be missed as she begins her next chapter.
If you have not registered for our Annual Meeting: Connecting Neighbors, now is the time. Plan to join us on Wednesday, June 19 (Juneteenth), from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the historic Lorain Palace Theatre in downtown Lorain. This year’s theme is Connecting Neighbors. What better way to connect with your neighbors than to join us for an engaging afternoon at the beautiful Lorain Palace Theatre? I look forward to seeing you there.
Finally, there is nothing more joyful than celebrating our scholarship recipients. Please join us in congratulating the 2024-2025 scholarship recipients! We look forward to celebrating the students and their families in late June our students as they embark on the next phase.
I look forward to connecting with you and all our neighbors at our Annual Meeting. Be well,
Cindy
