Juneteenth Movie Night

Join us on June 16th for a captivating film presented by the Community Foundation of Lorain County, the African American Community Fund, and the Lorain County Urban League Young Professionals as we enter the power of art, courage, and unity on a special Juneteenth movie night. The evening starts with a Welcome Reception at 5:00 pm followed by the screening of the film “The Shadow Between Us,” an award-winning documentary that takes viewers on an intimate journey into the life of Nehemiah Spencer, a talented Black dancer navigating the challenges of a pandemic lockdown in Cleveland. Produced by Cleveland natives Obadiah Baker and Nehemiah Spencer, this thought-provoking documentary sheds light on the transformative role of dance in addressing social issues at 5:30 pm.

The movie night and cultural conversation will take place at the historic Lorain Palace Theater, offering a grand setting for an immersive cinematic experience. After the film screening, a dynamic discussion involving local leaders, Young Professionals Brittany Lovett and Mark Ballard II, and African American Community Fund board member Kionna Mcintosh-Pharms with Obadiah Baker and Nehemiah Spencer.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, a day of emancipation and celebration, we invite you to join us in exploring the connections between art, social justice, and personal growth. This unique gathering serves as a platform for meaningful dialogue, amplifying diverse voices and perspectives within our community. Prepare to be inspired and engaged as we embark on an evening that honors the past, celebrates the present, and cultivates a more inclusive and united future. Admission to the event is free, making it accessible to all who wish to participate.
