“A bright future beckons. The onus is on us, through hard work, honesty, and integrity, to reach for the stars.”

— Nelson Mandela

What a joy it was to see so many of you at our Annual Meeting: Connecting Neighbors. We were thrilled to have over 200 neighbors attend! This year’s theme has led me to reflect on the importance of human connection and how it is at the core of all we do here at the Community Foundation.

Connecting people to causes that matter is not just our mission; it is the core of all we do here.  In a world that often highlights our differences, we discover how much we share – the values, dreams, and concerns- only through genuine connection and open dialogue. We create a foundation of trust and collaboration by reaching out to one another, listening with empathy, and fostering mutual respect. This common ground not only strengthens our bonds, but also empowers us to work together towards solutions that benefit everyone.  These connections also remind us that we are part of a community that cares about causes that matter.

Summer is in full swing, and for the Community Foundation, that means it is scholarship season! This Friday we will host our scholarship recipients and their families for our annual scholarship celebration. The support provided to our recent high school graduates and those pursuing higher education represents more than just financial assistance; it symbolizes the promise of a brighter future and the power of education to transform lives. Whether our students are heading to a four-year college, a trade school, or a community college, each one has demonstrated exceptional dedication, perseverance, and potential. We applaud our scholars, and we recognize the vital role their families have played in nurturing and supporting their dreams.

In addition to our scholarship celebration, Neighbor Nights are being hosted in Elyria, Lorain, and Oberlin. Be sure to check them out and make a plan to attend. Let’s continue to make the connections we started at the annual meeting and see what is possible.

Finally, in a full circle moment, I would like to say a special welcome to our intern, Caleb Peterson. Caleb is both a scholarship recipient and an alum of our Youth Fund and is currently a rising Junior at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Let’s work together to continue to ensure that we continue to grow opportunities for our young people to return to Lorain County to build their futures and give back to our community.

I hope summer is treating you well, and I look forward to seeing you enjoy this beautiful season.

Be well,
