Health & Human Services

2023 Grant Awards

Lorain County, OH – The Community Foundation of Lorain County is proud to announce that it has awarded more than $1Mn in grants to 45 non-profit organizations within the Health & Human Services area. These grants will enable non-profit organizations to continue providing essential services such as health, shelter, food, supportive housing, and home ownership to individuals and families in need.

Notably, five organizations received grant awards for the first time in the Community Foundation of Lorain County’s grant cycle, demonstrating the Foundation’s commitment to expanding its reach and supporting new initiatives. Cindy Andrews, President and CEO at the Community Foundation of Lorain County, expressed enthusiasm for the growth and expansion of the Community Foundation’s funding efforts, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome these new organizations to our grant cycle and strengthen our efforts in supporting the health and well-being of our community.”

Among the grant recipients, the MHARS Board received a fully funded grant of $9K for the Confess Project, an initiative that originated from a Harvard study. This program trains barbers in the African American community to identify and address mental health concerns among their clients. In addition, organizations such as Lorain County Housing Service, CHN Housing Partners, and Oberlin Community Land Trust focused on the theme of home ownership.
