Happy summer! Here at your Community Foundation of Lorain County, we launched summer with our Annual Meeting. This year, the Annual Meeting took place at Sprenger Stadium in Avon and included a Crushers baseball game. We welcomed several hundred Lorain County residents who came out to celebrate our local scholars and recognize a year of accomplishments.
Clare Cygan Young, who has served this community for more than 30 years received the Jim Doughman Community Service Award for her commitment to service and her vision to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness, supporting those most in need.
We celebrated 155 scholarship awards to students in Lorain County. The Foundation was able to distribute over $5.5 million last year in grants and scholarships, assisting local youth to pursue their next steps, be they college, the trades, or apprenticeships. We also celebrated accomplishments of our Women’s Fund, our Youth Fund, our African American Fund, and our Hispanic Fund, each of which made significant progress and distributions last year, supporting local initiatives that we highlight in our annual report. Organizations supporting community makes it all happen.
It is humbling to contemplate that with last year’s distribution of $5.5 million, your Community Foundation has now distributed over $100 million in our 39 years of existence! What a legacy. This milestone is a testament to the visionaries who launched your Foundation 39 years ago, and a testament to community organizations that have built endowments, trusting us and partnering with us to provide financial support to so many, for so long. We look forward to celebrating our 40th next year.
Have a happy and healthy summer!
