“This grant is going to make a significant difference. In the past 3 years, we’ve gone from 24 adults coming through our doors each week seeking assessments to between 44 and 54 a week. These are new individuals seeking care,” said Thomas Stuber, president and CEO of The LCADA Way. “By expanding both our physician and nursing base, we can accommodate more individuals and successfully keep people engaged in treatment, begin recovery, and become contributing members of the community again.”
Medical services have become a critical component of care for opiate addiction which has become increasingly difficult to treat with the introduction of synthetic drugs. MAT combines behavioral therapy and medications to treat substance abuse disorders.
“The impact of the opioid epidemic requires responsive action. Our ability to make this grant, thanks to the LifeShare Legacy Fund, directs resources where they are needed most, and provides greater access to services that can help residents of our county who are seeking treatment,” said Cindy Andrews president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Lorain County.
The LifeShare Legacy Fund was established at the Community Foundation of Lorain County in 2015 with an ~$8M gift from the LifeShare Foundation, which was associated with LifeShare Blood Services. The Fund has dramatically improved the Community Foundation’s impact in health and wellness, providing over $738,700 in grants and initiatives for Lorain County.
Additional grants awarded from the LifeShare Fund support programs provided by Lorain County Office on Aging, Mercy Health of Lorain County, The Road to Hope Foundation, and United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Cleveland.
The grant is one of a comprehensive set of grants recently awarded by the Community Foundation. Thirty-seven grants totaling $863,908, are supporting many important needs in the community. A complete list of grants awarded follows.
