August CEO Blog

“Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.” -H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

A wonderful reminder recently landed in my inbox. August is National Wellness Month. While it may seem lately our society has days and months to celebrate nearly every occasion or whim, National Wellness Month is one worth participating in and acknowledging. A focus on our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health is vital to our overall wellness. It also feels like perfect timing to focus on this, as many of us are preparing to send children back to school, dropping off college students, and preparing for a hectic fall season. Be sure to take some time and check out wellnessmonth.com for information, resources, and ideas.

A proven way of supporting our overall wellness is by giving our time, talent, and treasure to organizations we care deeply about. We are just one month away from our 3rd Annual Connect to a Cause on September 15th, and our participating non-profits are preparing for a successful day. This year’s 74 participating organizations fall into one (or more) of the following categories: Youth & Education, Health and Human Services, Arts & Culture, and Strengthening Lorain County. That number includes 60 returning organizations, 14 new non-profits joining the event, and 10 non-profits that have established new endowments at the Community Foundation.

When we launched this event in 2020, we were in the first few months of the pandemic and wanted to create a virtual fundraising option for area non-profits as they faced challenges connecting with supporters as we all dealt with COVID’s impact. Since its inception, Connect to a Cause has raised over $500K. We are confident that our community will come together once again this year to exceed our 2021 results and support causes that matter.

This year’s event is supported by our incredible Business Champions who have stepped up to support Connect to a Cause with sponsorships and incentives that will take place throughout the 12-hour event. We are grateful to these 27 businesses for their generous support.  If you have a local business and want to get involved to support Connect to a Cause, there is still time. Please reach out to Laura Malone, our Development Officer, if you would like to be a Business Champion.

I hope you find time in these last few weeks of summer to enjoy the beauty of the season and incorporate some wellness and time for yourself. And I hope to see you supporting our local non-profits on September 15th!

Be well,

Cindy
