It’s almost time for Connect to a Cause! Each day, I am reminded that the strength of Lorain County does not come from any one organization, business, or individual. It comes from the connections we build, the partnerships we nurture, and the shared commitment we have to helping one another succeed.

This month provided several powerful examples of what community can accomplish when we work together.

One of my favorite moments was welcoming home Lorain County native Will Torres for a scholarship and college essay writing workshop for local high school seniors. Through a partnership with El Centro and the Urban League of Lorain County, students had the opportunity to learn directly from someone who understands both the challenges and possibilities that come with pursuing higher education. Helping students see their potential and equipping them with the tools to tell their stories is exactly the kind of investment that strengthens our community for generations to come. We also had the opportunity to connect with Lorain County’s newest educators during the New Teachers Luncheon. Speaking with first-year teachers about the Community Foundation’s work was a meaningful reminder that schools, nonprofits, and community organizations all play a role in shaping the future of our county. These educators are beginning a journey that will impact thousands of young people in the years ahead, and we are grateful for their dedication to our students and communities.

Community has also been on full display through our Rooftop Series at the Ariel Broadway Hotel. These gatherings have brought together residents, nonprofit supporters, and local leaders for evenings of connection and conversation while raising support for organizations serving our county. With one more Rooftop Series event coming up on Thursday, September 10 from 6 p.m. to sunset, there is still an opportunity to join us. Not only will attendees enjoy a beautiful evening overlooking downtown Lorain, but also 10% of proceeds from the event will benefit local nonprofits. It is a simple reminder that every gathering can also become an opportunity to give back.

As we look ahead, that spirit of community will take center stage during Connect to a Cause on September 17 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. This annual countywide day of giving is one of my favorite days of the year because it demonstrates what is possible when people unite around causes they care about. Donors, nonprofits, volunteers, local businesses, and community leaders all come together with a shared purpose: strengthening Lorain County.

Connect to a Cause is about more than fundraising. It is about celebrating generosity, learning about the organizations making a difference in our neighborhoods, and recognizing that every contribution, large or small, helps create positive change. It is a day that reflects the very best of who we are as a community.

As September approaches, I encourage you to stay engaged. Attend a community event. Support a local nonprofit. Introduce a neighbor to a cause you care about. Join us for our final Rooftop Series event and mark your calendar for Connect to a Cause on September 17.

The power of community is not found in grand gestures alone. We continue to show what can happen when people who care come together to make a difference, together.
