April 24′ CEO Blog
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Wow, what a great month it has been! We started with the mesmerizing eclipse and some quality time with our dearest friends on the rooftop at Ariel Broadway Hotel. It was a joy to spot former clients thriving in their roles at the hotel. Plus, hosting our Philanthropy Ohio peers for a fantastic conference was the cherry on top. Thanks to all our Community Foundation colleagues and community leaders for making it a memorable gathering. Every day, we strive to showcase the best of our community. By the way, what’s your go-to spot for showing off our town to out-of-towners?
Spring has sprung, bringing a whirlwind of activity in our community and here at the Community Foundation. Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month? It’s a time to celebrate and honor the incredible contributions of volunteers who are the lifeblood of our community. Their spirit of compassion, generosity, and solidarity truly makes a difference. If you are itching to get more involved but unsure where to start, fear not!
The VolunteerConnect initiative, a powerful tool designed to connect you with causes that matter, is here. It is a collaborative effort by the Leadership Lorain County Class of 2024, Community Foundation, and LorainCounty.com. Stay tuned for the public launch on May 1st. If you are part of a non-profit hoping to get involved, email us at volunteer@peoplewhocare.org.
On the scholarship front, our dedicated volunteer evaluators are knee-deep in scholarship applications. With the FAFSA deadline extension causing a ripple effect, we are making some exciting changes at the Community Foundation. It is all part of our strategic plan to ensure that every high school student in Lorain County has access to post-secondary options, whether it’s college funding, vocational training, or career opportunities. Plus, we are on a mission to bring back the “boomerangs” – students who left the area but are eager to return to work and live in Lorain County.
Please mark your calendars for our 2024 Annual Meeting, Connecting Neighbors. We look forward to having you join us on June 19th at the Lorain Palace Theatre as we honor Juneteenth and explore the ties that connect us all. Your presence is highly valued, and we look forward to celebrating with you.
Here is to a fantastic spring season filled with hope and possibility!
With gratitude,
Cindy
