“Our sense of enchantment is not triggered only by grand things; the sublime is not hiding in distant landscapes. The awe-inspiring, the numinous, is all around us, all the time. It is transformed by our deliberate attention. It becomes valuable when we value it. It becomes meaningful when we invest it with meaning. The magic is of our own conjuring.”
– Katherine May, author
Recently I have been enjoying the book Enchantment: Awakening Wonder in an Anxious Age by Katherine May. This book has encouraged me to seek the beauty in the ordinary. What a great time of year to find the beauty in Lorain County. What will you notice and share with those around you? Let’s all look for small signs of spring that suggest the extraordinary amidst our ordinary days; what magic can we all discover?
We are in the midst of our own great discovery here at the Community Foundation as we are in the final stages of our strategic planning process and meeting with donors. I would like to extend a special thank you to all of you who have taken the time to meet with us. Whether it is the causes that are close to your heart or you are finding the most meaningful way to have an impact in your community, we are listening. These dynamic and unique conversations help set the stage for ensuring that our Community Foundation is just that: a Foundation that reflects our community’s needs, priorities, and passions now and for generations to come.
Recently, we have had the great fortune of connecting with peers locally and nationwide. A few days ago, Britt Lovett moderated and spoke at the Leadercast Women “Amplify Your Voice” event. Over 100 women gathered to listen to our local inspiring woman and network with others from across the county. As a proud Penn State alumna, I was honored to speak with students participating in the Diversity Enhancement Program at Penn State. I was truly inspired by their willingness to share their experiences. Whether the conversations take place with one of our neighbors or with people across the country, there is so much to learn and discover together. Locally, another great opportunity is coming up next week to meet and connect with others – Neighbor Night at Harrison Cultural Center in Lorain.
Please save the date and plan to join us for our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 21st. Our team is planning a fantastic event, and I look forward to seeing you there.
Be well,
Cindy
