January 2026 Blog: A Year for New Opportunities
“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.”
– Rainer Maria Rilke, poet
Winter ’26 CEO Blog
January often invites us to pause and look ahead at the year with renewed clarity. As we step into 2026, I am reminded once again that our community’s strength is rooted not only in what we accomplish, but also in how we show up for one another, and simply put, connect with the causes that matter to us.
I felt this deeply during our January staff outing to the St. Elizabeth Center, where our team spent time volunteering together. Moments like these ground us in our mission and remind us of the everyday acts of kindness, both visible and invisible, happening every day across Lorain County.
Now is the perfect moment to channel our energy into strengthening community life across Lorain County. One of the most meaningful ways to make an impact is by getting involved—whether through board service or hands-on volunteering.
Next month, we invite you to join us at The Hotel at Oberlin for our upcoming Role of the Board session. This gathering is designed for anyone curious about what it takes to serve on a nonprofit board. Whether you’re considering leadership for the first time or looking to deepen your understanding in your own role, this is a welcoming space to learn and ask questions about how board service can shape the future of local organizations.
At the Community Foundation, we thrive in this spirit of possibility. And I want to extend that same sense of opportunity to each of you when it comes to being in community spaces as a belonging member. Whether you’re looking to join our Neighbor Nights, attend events like the African American Community Fund’s upcoming trivia night or simply connect with a cause that aligns with your passions, your family or neighbor’s passions, we are here to help you take that next step. All are welcome, always.
Calendar prints from our Lorain County printmaker and contemporary artist David C. Jansheski are now available in the office lobby. If you’re nearby, please stop in—say hello, warm up and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea from our new machine (which has quickly become a team favorite!) We’d love to see you.
Until then, stay warm, stay connected and keep an eye out for the many opportunities that this season of new beginnings brings. As we roll into the new year, please continue to let us know about what content you would like to see from our newsletters and how else you would like to hear about Community Foundation happenings.
Sincerely,
Cindy
