The Nakon Foundation, located in Avon, Ohio, provides assistance such as rent or mortgage payments, utilities, transportation, medication, and medical insurance payments. Applications are taken once a year, but emergency assistance is available based on need.
A recent grant from the Community Foundation of Lorain County may help lessen this burden.
A $20,000 grant awarded to the Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation will provide direct financial assistance to Lorain County residents undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
With the help of the Lorain County Community Foundation and other members of the Lorain County community, the Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation has grown from a personal family tribute into a significant force in breast cancer patient assistance. Through this grant, we can now reach many more families here in Lorain County. ~ Matt Nakon, President, Board of Trustees, Karen P. Nakon Breast Cancer Foundation.
Since 2003, nearly 100 individuals in Lorain County have received financial assistance from the Nakon Foundation.
The Community Foundation hopes raising awareness of the grant award will connect even more patients and families with this valuable resource.
This grant round marks a major milestone for Community Foundation giving. On July 20th, its Board of Directors approved 44 grants for a distribution of $849,454 from 88 Endowment Funds. Since 1980, the Community Foundation has now made over $90 million in grants back to the community.
It is so rewarding to be a matchmaker between donors and organizations making an impact in our community. Every dollar we grant is the result of gifts made by people who care about our community. ~ Brian Frederick, President and CEO of the Community Foundation.
Grants were also awarded to fund a yearlong urban swim program for low income youth, a child abuse prevention conference, a Lorain County interest free loan pilot program, expanding medical services in Lorain County to confront the opiate crisis, and many more.
