Philanthropic and Community Coalition to end the Opioid Epidemic

PCC logoIn 2017, a community assessment by our partners at the Nord Family Foundation analyzed the opioid crisis in Lorain County.  That study provided some eye-opening findings.  Among the many findings, it was discovered that Lorain County faces a significant economic and social burden.  Last year, over 130 people died from opioid abuse or misuse.  And there was a nearly 200-million-dollar economic burden.

If ever we needed the power of a community of care supporting those in our community battling a debilitating disease of addiction, that time is now.  Fortunately, we have such a community.  The Philanthropic and Community Coalition is a coalition of public, private, and community entities working to end the opioid epidemic in Lorain County. This coalition represents our best effort at ending the epidemic.  Its focus is on transforming a disjointed social service system into a coordinated one.

The Coalition sees the former Golden Acres facility in Amherst (now known as “Recovery One”) as an optimal place to create an epicenter for efficient and effective social service delivery that saves lives while providing a central intake.  One place together with all of our county-wide partner agencies.

Eighteen partner agencies have come together to help shape the vision for Recovery One.  We extend a special thank you to partner foundations Nord Family Foundation and Black River Health and Wellness Foundation.

We have created a special fund at the Community Foundation to support the work of the Coalition.  We welcome the opportunity to share this message with others in the community.

Please invest with us in this fight.  To read the community assessment, donate, or to get involved visit https://endtheepidemiclc.org/
