The more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.”

— Norman Vincent Peale

What an incredible autumn it has been here in Lorain County. As we head into the holiday season, let us not forget the significance and joy of Thanksgiving. Like many of you, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, a time of celebration and giving thanks without the hustle and bustle of year-end. Gratitude is one of our most powerful feelings, and Thanksgiving can be a time of reflection on all we have to be grateful for and how we can give back.

Recently members of our team attended the 21/64 training at the Cleveland Foundation. This engaging session focused on multigenerational and next-generation giving. What better time than Thanksgiving for families to connect around causes that matter and how they can contribute meaningfully across generations. The “next” generation of giving may feel as if they lack the resources to contribute in significant ways to causes they care about.  Still, they can make a meaningful impact through their time, talent, testimony, and ties. No matter what their age, generation, or resources, everyone can feel empowered to contribute.

There is no shortage of opportunities to get involved with causes that matter throughout Lorain County. As you plan end-of-year giving, consider the Touch the Future Fund, the Impact Today Fund, and the Lorain County Scholars Scholarship fund. Each offers a unique way to support both immediate needs and long-term growth in our community. We invite you, our donors and friends of the foundation, to think about philanthropy and encourage you to discuss causes that matter and ways to contribute and get involved this holiday season.

With 2025 just around the corner, the Community Foundation is looking forward to our 45th anniversary. As we recognize this milestone, we are focused on connecting our past while building our future. You will find us throughout the year among our community’s libraries, parks, and public spaces, celebrating Lorain County’s rich history and assets, our diverse residents and youth, and all that is to come. We will be sharing more details about our plans and events throughout the year, and ways for you to get involved, including our Touch the Future Fund, which provides resources where they are most needed in our community.

Finally, our scholarship applications open on January 1, 2025. Be sure to check out the comprehensive guide for our competitive scholarships available on our website. Our team is here to answer questions and support students and families through the process.

I wish you and your family a happy, healthy, and hearty Thanksgiving.

With gratitude,

Cindy
