True belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world. Our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”

–Brene Brown, Author

You belong here” Reading this phrase may raise questions like: Who, me? Belong where or to what? The answer is yes. Yes, we mean you! And yes, we mean here, as in the Community Foundation of Lorain County. We are your Community Foundation, and you belong here!

For the last few months, we have been focused on building our new strategic plan, a roadmap for our future. Throughout this planning process, the word “belonging” became an integral part of our plan and the language we use daily when talking about the Community Foundation, its supporters, nonprofits, and the Lorain County community. I am excited to share more in the coming months about our how our strategic plan is coming together and how you can be a part of your Community Foundation. Please feel free to email me at candrews@peoplewhocare.org with any feedback for our strategic plan and what you want to make sure is considered as we develop our future vision.

When I think of belonging, Sally Peoples is one of the first people who comes to mind. Sally is a longtime supporter of the Community Foundation. Her commitment to our community and the causes that matter is evident in all that she does. Sally’s passion for philanthropy led her to establish three funds at the Foundation, but her generous spirit doesn’t end there. She gives her time by volunteering throughout Lorain County and has instilled the value of community and giving back to her own family. Not only did Sally find that she belonged at the Community Foundation, but her whole family also found a sense of belonging here.

The opportunity to find belonging like Sally and her family is available to anyone who has a connection to Lorain County. Did you grow up here and move away but still care about your hometown? You belong here. Are you a young professional looking to make a difference as you begin your career? You belong here. Are you passionate about a cause in our community but unsure how to make an impact? You belong here.

As we close out the month of May, I can’t help but think of what a busy time this is for parents, teachers, and students about to graduate and begin the next chapter of their lives. Let’s celebrate them, and thank the educators and staff that help our students reach their fullest potential.

Finally, I ask that you share this newsletter with one person and help us spread the word about what your Community Foundation is doing, and how they, too, can find a place to belong.

I look forward to seeing you on June 21st at our annual meeting.

Be well,

Cindy
