March ’26 CEO Blog
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I find myself reflecting on the countless individuals who have shaped not only our communities, but also the very foundation of our work here in Lorain County since 1980.
Susan Schaeffer, recognized as the first woman to serve as Community Foundation of Lorain County Board Chairperson in 2001, helped pave the way for a more inclusive and visionary approach to philanthropy. It is through leadership like hers that reminds us that progress is built by those willing to step forward, often before the path is fully clear.
That legacy lives on in the extraordinary women who make our foundation what it is today. From the dedicated women on our staff of twelve, the leaders serving on our Board of Directors, and the many women guiding our affiliate funds, to the executive directors guiding so many nonprofits in our communities, it is your compassionate insights and commitment that continue to move our mission forward in meaningful ways, again, often when paths forward might not yet be fully visible.
This month, I also want to recognize the incredible impact of the Women’s Fund—one of our four affiliate funds—and its year-round work to end period poverty in our community. Their efforts are a powerful reminder that equity begins with access and that dignity matters. We look forward to celebrating and supporting their work at the upcoming annual wine tasting fundraiser on Thursday, May 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., “A Perfect Pairing.”
We are also proud to highlight the leadership of Margarita Padua, President and CEO of Leadership Lorain County and Vice President of the Community Foundation Hispanic Fund, whose work on the recent Leadership Lorain Gala was a tremendous success. Her dedication to uplifting voices and building bridges across our community exemplifies the kind of leadership that drives lasting change. Congratulations to all four of the award recipients!
As we honor Women’s History Month, I encourage each of us to reflect on the causes that matter most to us—and the people behind them. This year’s Connect to a Cause on September 17, 2026 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. offers a powerful opportunity to discover organizations making a difference right here in Lorain County. It’s a chance to ask: how can my giving reflect my values? How can I support the women and families shaping our community’s future? Please continue to reach out to learn more.
We appreciate you taking the time to receive and read through our newsletter. Please continue to provide any feedback and share with others!
Sincerely,
Cindy
