Is it a Dragon or is it Love?

Recently, a few of our staff were circled around at a new piece of art on display in our lobby and discussing what it “said” to them. One clearly saw a dragon, another saw the word “love,” and yet another saw the churning ocean surf. They are all correct. How you interpret art is subjective and a reflection of your world view.

The piece they were admiring is from the David Jansheski collection. David Jansheski was a contemporary artist and master printmaker whose career spanned three decades. Jansheski prints are bold, colorful, and complex.

What do you see in the work pictured above?

Seeing three different visions in one piece of art mirrors how we help donors achieve their visions for community change, or how we connect people who care with causes that matter.

Where one donor sees a community need as a dragon and wants to aggressively tackle its challenges; another sees opportunity for positive change by spreading love and goodwill in their community. Yet another sees that an entire ecosystem must change to impact a systemic problem.

The good news is that all those approaches are the right ones. Because we offer the flexibility to support many different causes we provide a variety of approaches for affecting change. By helping donors be artists of good work in their communities we ensure that the work will continue far beyond any one donor’s lifetime.
