April ’26 CEO Blog

Happy spring! April is National Volunteer Month, and at the Community Foundation of Lorain County, we view this month as a time to recognize the power of showing up for one another and the many ways our generosities of time can transform a community.

Your ability to give your time strengthens our nonprofits, connects our neighbors and creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take part in something meaningful. Whether it’s lending a hand through People’s Projects (like the upcoming Cinco de Mayo parade and cultural celebration on Saturday in downtown Lorain) or stepping into a role that supports a local organization, each act of service contributes to a stronger, more connected community.

We are excited to extend a special invitation to the seniors in our community—and to those who love and support them. Do you know a senior who is looking for a meaningful way to stay engaged? Someone who might enjoy volunteering on a Tuesday morning in Lorain, or who would love an opportunity that welcomes their grandchildren to join alongside them? Or perhaps you are looking for long-term volunteer opportunities for you to get involved with during weeknight evenings?

Volunteer opportunities today are more flexible and accessible than ever. They can meet people where they are, fitting into different schedules, interests and life stages. One of the best places to start is VolunteerConnect, a free, easy-to-use platform that helps match individuals with local opportunities that align with their interests, availability and location. From hands-on service projects to behind-the-scenes support for nonprofits in your city, VolunteerConnect makes it simple to find the right fit.

I encourage you to explore what’s available by visiting this link or through reaching out to our office directly by phone, email or stopping in—we would be happy to help guide you or someone you know toward opportunities that feel right.

Volunteering is not just about giving back; it’s about staying connected, building relationships and continuing to make an impact at every stage of life to help cultivate and sustain spaces of equity and belonging in our county. During National Volunteer Month, I hope you’ll take a moment to consider how you, or someone in your life, might take part.

Sincerely,
Cindy
