Community Foundation of Lorain County Announces Grant Award to Second Harvest

Elyria, Ohio – January 25, 2019

The Board of Directors of Community Foundation of Lorain County has approved a grant award to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio to help support individuals and families who may be affected by the shutdown of the federal government.

Maria Grega, Grants Committee Chair, noted that

“one of every eight Lorain County residents relies on help from the federal government to buy groceries for their families each month through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly “food stamps”). The grant of $50,000 will provide additional food resources to Lorain County food pantries.”

The award was approved at the January 16, 2019 regular board meeting.

Julie Chase-Morefield, President & CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, upon being notified of the award, said, “Second Harvest is grateful for the support from the Community Foundation of Lorain County. While the government shutdown continues, Second Harvest is committed to connecting those who are affected to available food and resources in North Central Ohio. Our network of more than 100 Partner Charities stands ready to assist anyone during this time of uncertainty. We are here to help.”  If you need help, Second Harvest’s on-line directory is available to find a pantry or soup kitchen near you: http://bit.ly/SHFBFind_Help .  Food pantry distributions are also listed on Facebook @Second.Harvest.Food.Bank.Ohio or Twitter @SecondHarvestOH.  For those without access to a computer or to the internet, the phone number is 440-960-2265.
