We connect people who care with causes that matter

The Community Foundation of Lorain County is dedicated to enriching the lives of those living and working in Lorain County, Ohio.

Happy Spring!

Happy Spring!  March Madness is upon us; congratulations to all of our local winter athletes for completing their seasons, and we are excited that Spring Training has begun.  The days are longer, the sun is brighter, the temperatures are (slightly) warmer, and we all live near a Great Lake.

This past week I had the opportunity to meet with twenty of our Youth Fund members as they decided which non profit agencies to support in 2019.  These high school students spent a portion of their Sunday afternoon reviewing a needs assessment and awarding over twenty thousand dollars in grants by the end of the afternoon.  According to our Youth Fund President, Grace, three agencies were highlighted for the work in Lorain County.  "I credit the Youth Fund with making me more outgoing and willing to step out of my comfort zone. Not only have I made friends with students across the county, I've found people who I can really connect with through philanthropy and giving."

Each year we seek young people to join our Youth Fund advisory group.  Do you know of a high school youth who would like to join us in this upcoming school year?  Additionally, do you know of a youth agency that might be interested in working with our youth? If you answer yes to either of these questions, or if you are interested in supporting youth in Lorain County, please join us for an Open House at 2 pm on Sunday, April 14th here at the Foundation offices (Leavitt Road just south of 113).  See our youth in action and recognize our local non profits as they receive the funding determined by our Youth Fund members totaling over $20K.

Our other advisory funds have been busy as well.  The Women’s Fund will be hosting a SHEroes event on April 11th starting at 5 pm at Parkers in Avon; registration details are included in this mailing.  And our African American Community Fund will be hosting a Spark Tank for local entrepreneurs.  We hope you can join us for an upcoming program celebrating everything Lorain County.

One more celebration of an area luminary is just around the corner.  Please join us and the Lorain Public Libraries in supporting Toni Morrison and her film at the Cleveland Film Festival.  Discounted tickets are available with the code word Lorain.  We hope to see you there Friday evening April 5th or Saturday morning April 6th

Did you notice that special seal of approval below?  We recently received recognition in the form of an accreditation award from the Community Foundations Nationals Standards Board; the Community Foundation of Lorain County has been accredited in alignment with National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations.  We are proud to be part of such an important process.
