Hurricane Katrina Relief

As foundations across the U.S. respond to the crisis that continues to unfold in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, our thoughts are with the millions devastated in the region. In line with our effort following the tsunami relief in 2004-5, the Council on Foundations has created resources to assist those interested in donating or in tracking the philanthropic response to the disaster. These include links to charities and community foundations nationwide accepting donations and lists of known foundation and corporate donors, the amount of their contributions or pledges, and the recipient of each grant.

Note that while many donations will help meet the immediate needs of these communities (water, food, shelter), a number of the funds are also being established to meet the long-term needs of the affected area.

The Council has several resources on providing disaster relief.
