A Time for Sharing

At the Foundation, we often say that we have a Mezzanine View of the community -- we work closely with our grantees to learn about their biggest needs, and we talk with our donors in order to understand their charitable passions.  We're not on the stage, but we have a great view of the players and of the audience.  Unfortunately, what we are seeing is great need in our community, but we already know of the generosity of its members.  As we approach a season of great sharing and generosity, we wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some ways to help support our agencies and, perhaps, make the upcoming holiday season a bit brighter for others who struggle to have even the most basic of items.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Lorain County asks you to purchase a present for a child in need www.bigloraincounty.org/2008N_Events.html or adopt a child for the holiday through the Angels for Kids Foundation www.angelsforkidsamherst.com/

Neighborhood Alliance, formerly Neighborhood House Association, works with the homeless and many who have great needs.  They could use items listed on this page to support their work www.myneighborhoodalliance.org/

Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio is distributing record numbers of food to meet the increased needs in Crawford, Erie, Huron, and Lorain counties.  Consider doing a workplace or neighborhood food drive www.secondharvestfoodbank.org/act-now/food-drives

Of course, there are hundreds of organizations doing terrific work in Lorain County.  If you know of another organization doing food, clothing, or toy drives this holiday season, please email communications@peoplewhocare.org, and we will do our best to include that information on our Facebook page.

Of course, a gift to the Community Foundation lasts forever.  Please consider a gift to our Touch the Future Fund during this holiday season as well.  We thank you and are proud to work in such a generous community.
