Youth Fund Members Care Beth Maiden
On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, members of the Youth Fund Advisory Committee gathered at The Community Foundation to pack care packages for residents of the Haven Center, a homeless shelter in Lorain that is run by Neighborhood House Association. They busily assembled bags of toiletries and warm hats and scarves. YFAC members also personalized teddy bears for the children residing at the Haven Center by giving them names and tying on tags with suggestions like "Tell me a Story" or "Sing Me a Song". The children can hold onto the bears while their parents are going through the lengthy admission process and keep them close in the unfamiliar surroundings.
YFAC members also learned about homelessness and were shocked to find out that 3 babies were born to Haven Center residents last year. They will deliver the bears and care packages on a visit to the shelter in December.
