African American Community Fund Announces Grants

The African American Community Fund, an affiliate of The Community Foundation of Lorain County, recently approved grants to ten local organizations totaling $12,000: Vine of Hope Pass It On Ministry - $1,000 for a Family Service Project. Zion Community Development Corporation - $500.00 for the Making Our House a Home project. Save Our Children, Inc. - $1,500 for general operating support. Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County - $2,000 for the Backpack program. Blessing House - $2,000 for Emergency Care. Second Baptist Church - $500.00 for the School for Community Changes. Elyria Club of Negro Business and Professional Women, Inc. - $1,000 for the Tri-City
Lupus Project. Asbury United Methodist Church - $1,000 for the Food Pantry Ministry. Mt. Nebo Primitive Baptist Church - $1,000 for the Helping Hands Feeding Foundation. The MAD Factory - $1,500 for Theatre-Based Arts Programming and Outreach. The Fund also voted to approve a grant of $500 to MedWish, International, in support of Haitian relief efforts.
Founded in 1989 in memory of local humanitarian Charles E. Hopkins, the African American Community Fund seeks to lift the community through promotion and support of social, economic, and health initiatives, especially those serving African Americans. The Fund makes awards annually in January with a grants deadline of November 15.
