Community Foundation Board Approves $394,325 in Grants

 

 July 15, 2009 LORAIN, OHIO – The Board of Directors of The Community Foundation of Lorain County approved $394,325 in grants for local organizations at this morning’s meeting.  “The Foundation saw a 20% increase in requests for this first grants cycle of the year,” said Brian Frederick, Foundation President/CEO, “and we are working diligently to make strategic grants that meet the community’s most immediate needs.”  Listed below are the organizations receiving grants in this first of two competitive grants cycles for the year:

Arts and Culture

Great Lakes Theater Festival - $21,405 for 2009-2010 education programs in Lorain County

Ohio Dance Theatre - $20,000 for general operating support

The MAD Factory - $15,000 for theatre-based arts programming

Oberlin Heritage Center - $10,000 for history education outreach

Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra - $2,500 for scholarships

Slowik Music Institute - $2,200 for Credo Festival Community Service Days

 

Community-Building

Leadership Lorain County - $2,500 for community leadership programs

Lorain County Urban League - $10,000 for general operating support

Western Reserve Land Conservancy - $5,000 for land preservation work in Lorain County

 

Education

Cleveland Museum of Natural History - $9,800 for health and life science education for rural schools

Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association - $11,375 for Lorain and Elyria Schools Gifted Program

Lake Erie Nature and Science Center - $10,000 for Outreach to the Stars  program

                                                            $3,000 for Atmosphere Adventures program

 

Health

Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center - $15,000 for community services for Lorain County residents

Family Planning Services of Lorain County - $24,000 to support the Medical Director’s position

 

Social Services

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Lorain County - $30,000 for community-based mentoring

Catholic Charities Services of Lorain County - $35,000 for day shelter and Family Night Program

Family Promise of Lorain County, Inc. - $20,000 to support the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Lorain Co.

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio - $22,000 for Girl Scouting in Lorain County

Harrison Cultural Community Centre - $20,000 for general operating support

Heart of Ohio Boy Scout Council - $19,800 for Lorain County Scoutreach Program

Lorain County Lutheran Presbyterian Cooperative Ministries - $15,000 for community programs

Lorain County Office on Aging - $25,745 to connect rural seniors to services

Ronald McDonald House - $5,000 for room sponsorship

Save Our Children - $25,000 for youth programs

Volunteer Guardianship Program of Lorain County - $15,000 for guardianship services

 

The Community Foundation of Lorain County is a permanent endowment of over $64 million in assets in the form of
funds created by businesses, generous individuals, schools and organizations. 
These funds make grants annually
to organizations that serve Lorain County and also make scholarships to local students.
