Foundation Makes First Grant from Anna Martin Fund
Beth Maiden

October 31, 2007 LORAIN, OHIO – Lorain County women and children are finally benefitting from the estate of Anna Martin with a grant of $25,000 made from the Anna Martin Fund held at The Community Foundation of Lorain County.Blessing House, a crisis nursery for children birth through age 12, received the grant to purchase a van which will enable the organization to transport children to their home schools across Lorain County. “During an emergency due to health, homelessness, or domestic violence, caregivers may take their children to Blessing House instead of leaving them with someone inappropriate or alone at home,” said Brian Frederick, Foundation President and CEO. The purchase of this van will help the volunteers and staff at Blessing House maintain a child’s routine by keeping him or her in their own school.”In 2006, Blessing House transported children to 34 different school buildings as far away from the organization’s home in South Lorain as Wellington. Blessing House may care for up to 10 children at one time and served 140 children in its first year of operation.
The Anna Martin Fund at The Community Foundation of Lorain Countywas created in 2006 from the charitable proceeds of the sale of land to the developers of Light House Village under direction of the Lorain County Probate Court. The Anna Martin Fund will make grants forever to organizations that benefit women, girls, and their families.“Our promise to Anna Martin and to the residents of Lorain County is that we will protect Ms. Martin’s financial gift through solid investments and fiduciary oversight, and we will protect her charitable wishes through constant and scrupulous attention to making grants that will truly benefit the women in our community,” said Frederick.“Blessing House is truly an organization that matches the charitable intent of the Fund, and we could not think of a more deserving group to receive the first grant.”
