MD
The Community Foundation of Lorain County awarded over $3.6 million in grants to nonprofit organizations last year and over $240,000 in scholarships to Lorain County students. The information was released at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting luncheon held at the Spitzer Conference Center on the campus of Lorain County Community College.
The theme of the meeting was Building a Vibrant Lorain County, and 8 local nonprofit agencies who have received grants from the Community Foundation were available to talk with attendees about their agency’s programs. The agencies included Center for Leadership in Education, El Centro, Lorain County Urban League, National Inventor’s Hall of Fame, Lorain County Historical Society, Team Lorain County, Gathering Hope House, and Community Health Partners Rural Parish Nurse program.
The Foundation also released its 2006 annual report and provided updates on finances, development, grants and initiatives in addition to recognizing its 2007 scholarship recipients at the event.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the 2007 Jim Doughman Community Service Award which went to longtime Girl Scout director Marty Kelly. Kelly was nominated by her staff and by friend and colleague Joan Lowry for her leadership and behind-the-scenes work in Lorain County nonprofits.
Since its inception in 1980, the Community Foundation of Lorain County has awarded over $44 million in grants and scholarships.
